Fraser Smith Quartet is a working band before it's a festival booking, and it shows: tenor out front, a rhythm section that has played this book a hundred times, four musicians who know exactly where the tune is going and enjoy taking the long way there. At Alfie's Jazz Club, that means bebop and hard bop played at full tilt, in a room built for exactly this. It's the first of two Fraser Smith appearances on this year's Soho Jazz Festival bill, and the one that shows what the quartet sounds like on a normal night — before he steps up later as one of Giants of Bebop's headline names.

Perched above the bustle of Greek Street, Alfie’s Soho is a private members’ jazz bar hidden in plain sight. Inside, it’s candlelight, curated art, and a grand piano that rarely stays silent. Signature cocktails, including the Soho Vodka Martini, accompany performances from some of Europe’s finest jazz musicians.
Membership or advance reservation only, never walk-in. It does not operate as a restaurant.
A salute to the greats, played by the new: the standards and the language of Parker, Gillespie and Monk, carried by players making their name now. Bebop has Soho in its bones.
