Basil Hodge has been a commanding presence on the British jazz scene for over three decades. Classically trained before studying privately with pianist Tim Richards and completing his education at Goldsmiths College London, Basil has risen through the ranks to perform alongside leading UK players including Jim Mullen, Tony Kofi, Dave O'Higgins and Renato D'Aiello. His critically acclaimed albums, including My Guardian Angel and A Point of Reference, have earned him a four-star rating from Jack Massarik in the Evening Standard and regular airplay on Jazz FM and BBC Radio 3's Jazz Line Up.
Basil's performances span the country's finest venues, from Ronnie Scott's and the Royal Festival Hall to Pizza Express Soho and The Vortex Jazz Club. He has held prestigious residencies at The Savoy and Claridges, and in 2022 appeared as a pianist in Steve McQueen's film Blitz and The Crown Series 6. A regular headliner at Soho Live venues including Piano Bar Soho and Alfie's Soho, Basil has been honoured as a Soho Live Music Club All-Star.
Known for his charming compositions and emotionally hard-swinging performances, Basil brings a warmth and depth to every show. Whether leading his trio, quartet or quintet through post-bop originals or Latin-inflected grooves, his playing is both sonorous and thoughtful, articulated with a proper jazz touch. His shows offer an authentic connection to the Blue Note heyday and the open, fresh sound of Coltrane-era jazz, creating an unforgettable experience for discerning jazz audiences.
