Mejedi Owusu is a London-born trumpeter, pianist, and composer whose music draws from Gospel, Highlife, West African sacred traditions, and Western classical training. A graduate of The Purcell School and Trinity Laban Conservatoire, Mejedi now studies at Juilliard in New York, where he performs with ensembles such as the Mary Lou Williams Ensemble and the Juilliard Jazz Orchestra. His work as both a performer and arranger reflects a deep engagement with jazz history, reimagined through a cross-cultural lens.
Equally at home in small groups and large ensembles, Mejedi has performed at venues including Ronnie Scott’s, the Royal Albert Hall, the Blue Note in New York, and Westminster Abbey. As a member of NYJO’s Latin Collective and other boundary-pushing projects, he brings a rich stylistic range to every performance—combining the drive of hard bop, the fluidity of Afro-Cuban jazz, and the spiritual depth of gospel-rooted improvisation. His trumpet sound is expressive and commanding, marked by a lyrical approach and a clear emotional arc.
Emerging as a key voice in the next generation of jazz artists, Mejedi is building a career that bridges scenes and traditions. Through his thoughtful arrangements, dynamic performances, and transatlantic presence, he is helping shape the future of modern jazz with both skill and soul.
