The Night
The Greek St. Sessions is Alfie's on a Friday with a Soho jazz star at the studio grand: the century's best songs, one flight up above Greek Street, martinis within reach. Two houses, 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM, both with a habit of selling through. The room seats you an arm's length from the music, which is the whole point of this club. Wear something good and book the early house for talking, the late house for listening.
The Music
The Sessions run on the Club's deepest asset: a roster of singers and players the Soho Live Studios producers book on conviction, week in, week out. Friday's star works the songbook the Alfie's way, close, unhurried and played to the room rather than at it. Gershwin, Porter, Arlen and the corners in between. Trust the room, and the room delivers. This stage has broken enough acts that the regulars treat every unfamiliar name as a tip worth taking.
A session at Alfie's means the music leads and the evening follows: two houses, a studio grand with history in it, a short cocktail list that knows its strengths. Expect standards sung close and played closer, requests taken seriously, and the particular Alfie's trick of making a Friday feel like a found secret. Whoever holds the stage will have earned it.
