The Night
Friday night at Jack Solomons starts the way the best basement nights do: down the stairs, cocktail in hand, the room already warm. This is the Discovery Stage, the basement at 41 Great Windmill Street where the Club points its regulars at whoever is coming next, and this Friday belongs to the Blues. Cocktails at the kiosk from 6:30 PM, show at 8:00 PM. Get down early, settle in properly, and let the blues make the introductions.
The Music
Kieren Mensah is a blues guitarist from Folkestone whose name is about to stop being a secret. He plays lead for Katie B and The Snooks, the band fronted by British Blues Award winner Katie Bradley, and this spring he walked out as the support act at a sold out Newton Faulkner show in his home town. His playing sits squarely in the B.B. King and Buddy Guy line, fiery and emotive, with the kind of tone players twice his age spend whole careers chasing. The Kent circuit already knows what it has. The rest of London is about to find out.
The Blues Session is a full set by design, with room for the slow burners as well as the barn stormers. Expect T-Bone Walker and the classic electric songbook alongside his own material, played through a sound system that puts you inside the amplifier rather than politely in front of it. Nights like this are the reason Soho Live Studios exists: the artists who are about to matter, played to the people who will say they saw them first, chosen by producers who are convinced you will not forget him.
Mensah's tone and stage presence make every solo unforgettable.
