The Night
Cocktail hour was invented for rooms like this. Find the door behind the Red Room and you are in the Piano Bar, the hidden jazz den inside Jack Solomons, with chilled drinks and great jazz for the summer nights. Thursday runs the classic double: shows at 6:30 PM and 8:30 PM, cocktails available at the kiosk from 6:00 PM. One of London's most intimate small music rooms, for spotting the next big jazz talent.
The Music
Ben Love takes the piano and Stan Brunt the guitar, and between them the American songbook gets a proper Soho going over. Brunt is a name to watch: a Leeds guitarist trained at the Royal Academy of Music, winner of the Richard Turner Jazz Fund Prize, fresh from the EFG London Jazz Festival, with a debut album on the way. Love is the room's kind of pianist, booked by the Soho Live Studios producers on instinct. Standards, ballads and the occasional curveball, played by two musicians who listen harder than they show off.
This is where the Club puts musicians it believes in, right at the start of the pipeline, and evenings like this are how careers get built, an audience at a time. Catch this pair now, in a room this size, and in a few years you can say you were there before everyone else.
