The Night
Koko Collective take Saturday at Alfie's and swing it hard: a band dedicated to anything that swings, a studio grand, and a room one flight up above Greek Street where the martinis are proper and the tables sit close. Two houses, 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM, and Saturdays have a habit of selling through. Come for the first set, stay for the one where the band stops looking at the charts.
The Music
Koko Collective is a band of London players led by saxophonist and clarinettist Arran Kent, with members who have come through festival favourites Tantz, Nubiyan Twist and Noya Rao. Their home ground is the 1940s, from Charlie Parker to the swing bands he grew out of, and they played Soho Jazz Festival '26 right here at Alfie's.
Expect swing that leans into bebop and blues that lean into everything: tunes you know played like they were written this morning, and a few deep cuts for the regulars. A band this well drilled in a room this size is the whole point of a jazz club. The early house is the warm up, and the late house is the party.
