Greek St. Sessions ft. Nico Widdowson is Alfie's doing what it was built for: the Musicians' Company's reigning Young Jazz Musician of the Year live at the studio grand, one flight up above Greek Street, martinis within reach. Two houses, 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM, both with a habit of selling through. The room seats you an arm's length from the music, which is the whole point of this club. Wear something good and book the early house for talking, the late house for listening.
The Music
Nico Widdowson won the Musicians' Company Young Jazz Musician of the Year in 2024, a Leeds Conservatoire graduate whose Harlem stride runs straight into free improvisation without slowing down. Gershwin, Porter, Arlen and the corners in between get the same treatment as his own material: close, unhurried, played to the room rather than at it — the same instinct that carried his debut album, On Fools and Clowns, to an editor's pick in Jazz Journal this summer. Trust the room, and the room delivers.

A session at Alfie's means the music leads and the evening follows: two houses, a studio grand with history in it, a short cocktail list that knows its strengths. Expect the songbook played close and closer still, the stride workouts, and the particular Alfie's trick of making a Saturday feel like a found secret. Widdowson has earned the stage.
