The Night
Friday night at Jack Solomons starts the way the best basement nights do: down the stairs, cocktail in hand, the room already warm. This is the Discovery Stage, the basement at 41 Great Windmill Street where the Club points its regulars at whoever is coming next, and this Friday belongs to the New Wave: a Soho Live Studios artist, name to follow, sound guaranteed. The Music
The Soho Spotlight is the Discovery Series' proving ground: one artist from the Soho Live Studios pipeline, chosen by the producers, given the stage and a full set to make their case. The billing lands closer to the night; the standard is decided long before. These are the players the studios hear first, at the very start of the industry's pipeline, and the Spotlight is where they meet their first proper audience. Trust the room, and the room delivers.
The New Wave is exactly what it sounds like: the next generation of London jazz and everything it borrows from, played through Europe's first fully immersive Yamaha sound system to ninety seats that will claim they were there first. One act, one full set, tickets kept low, because discovery should be easy to say yes to. Watch the listing for the name, or better, book early and be ahead of it.
