Cocktail Swing by Candlelight does the introductions itself: a Soho jazz star swings the songbook while the kiosk shakes the good stuff, in the hidden jazz den inside Jack Solomons. Two shows, 6:30 PM and 8:30 PM, cocktails from 6:00 PM, candles lit, tempo up.
The Music
The billing stays with the house: a star from the Club's roster, picked by the Soho Live Studios producers, with swing the brief and the piano the engine. Expect the jazz age songbook with its collar loosened, stride and boogie tucked between the standards, and tempos that pull the room forward. Trust the room, and the room delivers. Thursdays here have a habit of turning one drink into three.
Swing by candlelight is a very specific cocktail: low light, close tables, drinks with backbone, and a player who can make two dozen seats feel like a full ballroom. The early show warms up, the late show cuts loose, and requests are honoured when the mood allows. The kiosk keeps pace either way.
