The Night
One Friday only. Bassist Theo Archer, a familiar face across the Soho Live stages, brings Armenian pianist Arman Peshtmaljyan into the hidden jazz den inside Jack Solomons. Kiosk from 6:00 PM, shows at 6:30 PM and 8:30 PM, a couple of dozen seats close enough to watch the hands.
The Music
Peshtmaljyan trained at the Komitas Conservatory in Yerevan and the Jazzcampus in Basel, plays in the Armenian Navy Band, winners of a BBC Radio 3 World Music Award, and the State Jazz Orchestra of Armenia, and was nominated for Best Folk Song at the 2025 World Entertainment Awards for his rework of a Komitas hymn.
Expect the old melodies of Armenia carried into swing: minor keys that turn to blues, dances in odd time, standards you know with a different accent, and plenty of room to improvise. Something you will not hear anywhere else in Soho this week.
