The Music
James Browne plays stride piano, the hardest-working left hand in jazz, and he brings it to the Piano Bar. He is one of Soho Live Studios' favourite piano men, and a Piano Bar Soho regular.
James is a founding member of the Koko Collective, the band that came out of Soho's jazz clubs, and the player promoters single out for his stride. Before music took over he served as an officer in the Royal Navy. Stride was born at the Harlem rent parties of the 1920s, Fats Waller and James P. Johnson trading choruses through the night, and it still makes a room grin.
The Night
Piano Bar Soho is the speakeasy Soho keeps to itself: down through Jack Solomons Club at 41 Great Windmill Street, candles on the tables, a cocktail in hand, and stride piano at full gallop a few feet away.
From the Royal Navy to the left hand of the Koko Collective. Hear the next chapter up close.
