The Music
Bassist Stuart Barker brings a trio of serious pedigree to Alfie's, with pianist David Ferris and drummer Alfonso Vitale.
Stuart picked up the double bass at fourteen, left Birmingham Conservatoire with the course prize, and has since played the Barbican, the Southbank Centre and the Cheltenham and Brecon jazz festivals. He has worked with Clark Tracey and Simon Spillett, played for Andrea Bocelli, and supported Laura Mvula, The Blockheads and Snarky Puppy.
David Ferris is a Cornishman with a first-class jazz degree, the Mike Gibbs Prize for composition, and a septet album, Sketches, featuring the great American guitarist Peter Bernstein. Jazz FM's Helen Mayhew named him one to watch. Behind the kit is Alfonso Vitale from Messina, who has sat in with Kenny Barron and Bobby Watson and now drives Tony Kofi's Portrait of Cannonball.
The Night
Alfie's Jazz Club, hidden above Greek Street: candlelight, curated art on the walls, and a studio grand that rarely stays silent. Start with a Soho Vodka Martini and settle in with a trio that has played the biggest rooms in London.
