The Night
Saturday belongs to the horn: Arran Kent brings his saxophone and clarinet to Alfie's for a night of bebop the way it was meant to be heard, fast, close and a little bit dangerous, one flight up above Greek Street. Two houses, 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM. The martinis are proper, the tables are near enough to feel the air move, and the late house is where the tempos go up.
The Music
Arran Kent plays saxophone and clarinet with a bebop vocabulary and an expressive, blues-soaked tone. He is musical director of Koko Collective, a regular at both Alfie's and the Piano Bar, and has taken his playing to jazz festivals across Europe. At Soho Jazz Festival '26 he led Giants of Bebop right here at Alfie's, and this is the Saturday rematch.
Expect the Parker and Gillespie songbook played with real fire: rhythm changes at speed, blues that take their time, and the occasional clarinet feature that sends the room back to 52nd Street. Kent plays to the room rather than at it, which in a club this size means every solo lands at arm's length. Arrive early, order well, and save your applause for the last chorus.
